AN IMPOSING LATE 18th CENTURY FRENCH SOLID OAK BUFFET / DRESSER
Dating to the end of the 18th century, this stunning 3 piece French Normandy solid oak Buffet is in very good all round condition. It stands on swept Louis style feet with an attractive carved and moulded apron.
The base section has 3 central drawers, all of which are constructed with hand cut dovetail joints and all have later handles, though I would say that they were replaced around 80 to 100 years ago when some restoration was carried out on the buffet. This restoration is mainly to the feet which is shown in the photo's. The cupboards have a single shelf to the inside and are enclosed with a fine asymmetrical moulded panel door complete with working lock and original brass hinges and key escutcheons. The keys to these locks also operate the locks in the frieze drawer which are also constructed with hand dovetails and both have later brass drop handles.
?The top section has 2 shelves to the inside which are again enclosed with super moulded panel doors with working lock and original hinges and escutcheons.
The top frieze rail has decorative moulding and is finished off with a traditional lift off ogee cornice.
This is a lovely piece of French furniture and would compliment the dining room of any home traditional or modern.
Commensurate with it's age, there has in the past been a small amount of historical insect attack to the Buffet but this is minimal and has been sprayed with a 5 star 20 year treatment..
The Buffet measures;
base
70 inches wide max, 21 inches deep, 38 inches high.
?The top section is 61 inches wide (body) 18.75 inches deep and 17 inches internal.
The over all height of the whole unit is 88.25 inches.
The cost to deliver this Buffet to England, Wales and Scotland (Glasgow to Edinburgh) is 95.00.
