Description
Dating to the middle of the 19th century, this stunning French 1 piece pine Buffet / dresser is in good condition and is shown displaying plates and a kettle which are not included.
This type of dresser is unique to the Coutance area of Lower Normandy where they have been made for a couple of centuries.
Standing on traditional sleigh feet, the dresser has a lower cupboard section which is enclosed with a pair of panel doors. The left hand door is held shut with a simple sprung catch while the right hand door closes on to and is held shut with a working lock. The hinges and key escutcheons are later additions but date to about 1900.
Above the cupboard is a pot shelf followed by a pair of frieze drawers which are well constructed and have dropped ring pull handles.
The plate rack is of good proportions and has decorative friezes and a simple ogee cornice.
Commensurate with it's age, there has been some insect attack to the dresser but although historical, it has been sprayed with a 30 year 5 star treatment.
This is a lovely piece of French furniture and would compliment the dining room of any home traditional or modern..
The Buffet measures;
base; 47.5 inches wide, 17.5 inches deep max and
26 inches high to the lower section / 48 inches high to the drawer frieze.
top is; 9 inch shelf depth with an over all height of the whole dresser being 81.5 inches.
The cost to deliver this Buffet to England, Wales and Scotland (Glasgow to Edinburgh) is £75.00.
