Description
Dating to the end of the 19th century, this super French oak buffet is in 2 pieces and in very good condition. Standing on bracket feet and a plinth, the buffet has a single shelf to the inside of the base section which is enclosed with a pair of panel doors. The left hand door is held shut with a sprung catch while the right hand door closes on to it and is held shut with a working lock and key. The 2 frieze drawers have their original knobs and run with ease.
The top section has 2 fixed shelves to the inside which are enclosed with a pair of glazed doors, and again with a working lock and key.
The bold ogee cornice is typical of this fine Louis Philippe period.
The buffet base measures; 52.5 inches wide, 19 inches deep and 40 inches high. The top section is 16 inches deep, 53 inches wide to outside of cornice with an over all height of the whole buffet being 88 inches.
