Description
Firstly, this stunning Armoire is quite unusual being made of pear wood. Fruit wood armoire's do come up but they are few and far between.
Dating to the end of the 18th century and being made of fruit wood, the armoire has been subject to insect attack all over which I have shown in the photo's. This attack is all historic and I would imagine that it was treated about 40 years ago when the armoire underwent some restoration.
To make sure, I have sprayed the armoire with a 5 star 30 year treatment.
Standing on traditional escargot feet, the armoire has a single shelf to the inside. This is enclosed with a pair of super asymmetrical panel doors indicative of the period, the left one having a faux-dormant.
The blacksmith made hinges and escutcheons are original to the armoire but the lock is a later addition.
This is all complimented with the chapeau de gendarme lift off cornice.
The armoire is peg jointed front and back so if needed would come apart.
The armoire measures; 49.5 inches wide / 55.5 outside of cornice, 21 inches deep / 23.25 outside of cornice and 82.75 inches high.
The cost of delivering the armoire to England, Wales and Scotland (Glasgow-Edinburgh) is £75.00
